Fall Protection Incident

Grant Forest Products Inc., located in North Bay, Ontario, was fined $90,000 in July 2008 for failure to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

On July 25th, Grant Forest Products Inc. of North Bay Ontario was fined $90,000 for an incident that occurred on February 19th, 2002. An employee of Wabi Development Corporation fell seven meters down into a wood chip separator and suffered leg injuries while performing an inspection. Wabi Development Corporation had been contracted to do the maintenance. In December 2005, they also paid a $50,000 fine for the same type of incident.

Both incidents found Wabi Development Corporation guilty of failing to ensure that a worker, who was exposed to a fall hazard greater than three meters, wore proper fall protection equipment and received the proper training in its use.
