The manufacturing sector
has seen a major loss in jobs since October 2008 - a
6.1% drop to be precise. This includes:
Auto Parts
Manufacturing: down 13,300 jobs
Motor Vehicle Body Manufacturing: down 10,200 jobs
Motor Vehicle Assembly and Parts: down 65,000 jobs
since it's peak in 2001
"Within
manufacturing, the largest employment drops were
recorded in transportation equipment, fabricated
metal, machinery, food manufacturing and wood
products.
Nationally, total non-farm payroll employment fell
by 79,600 in February, down 0.5 per cent from the
previous month. Since it peaked last October,
296,000 employees have been lost."
