Summer Students

It's that time again, companies across Canada are hiring summer students. Does your workplace comply with the Health and Safety guidelines?

Summer is here and that means that students are looking for work. Many students will be working in industries where Health and Safety Training is required.

Many jobs in construction, cleaning, manufacturing, etc., require that workers have Health and Safety training. Employers, parents, and  young workers should be prepared and have the necessary training to work in any of these industries. Training may include, but is not limited to:

WHMIS: Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System
TDG: Transportation of Dangerous Goods
CSA: Confined Spaces Awareness
FP: Fall Protection

Summer students need to remember their 3 basic rights while being employed:

1. The right to know about hazardous materials and practices

2. The right to refuse work they believe is dangerous, and

3. The right to participate in decisions affecting their health and safety.

Be safe, give your summer workers, and all workers, the proper training to ensure their safety at all times.

Have a safe summer!
