Star Ornamental Company Ltd, a metal fabricator
in Stoney Creek ON, pleaded guilty on July 27th to
failing, as an employer, to ensure that workers were
adequately trained in the use of a fall protection system. A
$75,000 fine plus a 25 % victim surcharge was levied.
The violation occurred in July of 2008 when a
Star Ornamental employee fell 2 to 3 meters from a ladder
during the installation of a vertical access ladder at a
construction site. The worker suffered from serious head, neck and
rib injuries.
Proper fall protection equipment and training
would have prevented the injury to the employee and saved the
employer
a lot of down time and a large fine.
