Sunrise Propane's
‘Authorization to Operate’ is Suspended.
In the wake of the August 10th
explosion at Sunrise Propane’s Murray Road facility in North
York, Ontario, the
Technical Standards & Safety Authority
has suspended Sunrise Propane’s license
to operate at their three facilities pending a hearing to
revoke that authority altogether for violations of the
Technical Standards & Safety Act.
The TSSA cites
violations of the Technical Standards & Safety Act. This
includes: 1. failing to obey a safety order and continuing to
allow truck-to-truck transfer of propane in the facility; 2.
modifying the facility without the written permission of the
TSSA.
The explosion at
the Murray Road facility killed a worker and a fire fighter
and caused extensive damage to the surrounding residential
neighborhood. Homes in the surrounding area of the explosion
had to be evacuated due to Asbestos. The residents were not
allowed to return until the air quality was deemed to be safe.
